Family Assembly Special

The K-2 class has been doing an excellent job in music! There are some VERY good singers in this group.  Check out the song we have been practicing which we sang for the BCA October Family Assembly.

A little bit of hands on learning (Grade one/two)

Here is a peek into a couple sessions of the grade ones and twos classes (from the week of Oct. 11): Here the grade twos were showing their ability to build and replicate repeating patterns with two attributes (colour and position) for our patterning unit in math:
Faith is showing her increasing pattern as well. In language stations, Mikaila searched through the word tiles to make a meaningful sentence, while Lincoln was busy "writing" his spelling list using playdough.
Looking forward to having class bloggers help keep us up-to-date! Miss Alexander (Somehow the formatting tools are deleting the spaces I put in, and smushing all my comments together... Will have to figure that out next time - my apologies for the meantime.)

A few Pumpkin Patch Field Trip pics

Sorry this is so late, but here are a few pictures "from the field".
Here are a few more showing some of the other activities (somehow I missed getting pictures of feeding the goats, chasing roosters, exploring the corn maze - probably because I was too busy having fun!)
I know the moms who came along probably have better photos, but just wanted to get these up for the meantime.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip (student blogger)

We found a pumpkin! It was red. ETHAN!

Even Steven Odd Todd Math

I discovered this book in BCA's library and recognized the potential.  On Friday the students listened with rapt attention to the story and then the students worked in pairs recognizing and listing "Odd Todd" and "Even Steven" numbers as I re-read the story. We will continue discovering even and odd patterns by making sets, drawing pictures, sorting the numbers in station activities, looking on hundreds charts, and so on...  This was a great way to introduce a powerful and far reaching math concept.

Hope you have a great weekend and find ways explore the topic of odd and even numbers with your child at home!
